My Military Journey

From recruit to Head Instructor, my service in the Singapore Armed Forces shaped who I am today — through challenge, leadership, and trust.

BMT

Recruit – Basic Military Training

Oct 2022 – Dec 2022

Completed foundational training focused on physical resilience, military discipline, and mental endurance. Learned essential soldiering skills through intense drills, teamwork, and daily regimentation. This chapter built the base for everything that followed.

Infantry

Private – Infantry Trainee (8 SIR)

Dec 2022 – Feb 2023

Trained in urban combat, CBR defense, and live-fire drills with weapons like the M203 grenade launcher. Built tactical awareness and adaptability under pressure, laying the foundation for operational confidence.

MWD Handler

Lance Corporal – MWD Handler

Feb 2023 – Jul 2023

Assigned to the Military Working Dog Unit. Trained dogs in obedience, bite work, and guard protocols to enhance base and operational security. Managed their daily care and built unique bonds built on trust, responsibility, and consistency.

Instructor

Corporal – Auxiliary Instructor

Jul 2023 – Nov 2023

Stepped into a leadership role, guiding Dog Handler Trainees through hands-on exercises in obedience, detection, and safety. Strengthened communication and teamwork while upholding high instructional standards.

Head Instructor

Corporal First Class – Head Instructor

Nov 2023 – Sep 2024

Promoted to the SAF’s highest enlistee rank for outstanding contributions. Led the Dog Handler Course and a team of instructors, planning and executing training aligned to SAF standards. Represented the unit during international demonstrations for delegations including the U.S. and Australian Army. Awarded Best Soldier of the Month in July 2024.

Reflections

My military journey reshaped who I am. It taught me to lead with calm under pressure, to build trust in silence, and to find pride in responsibility. From trainee to instructor, from handler to leader — I grew not just in rank, but in character.
